Ones To Watch ‘13.
the past twelve months has been really quite brilliant for great music, so many things discovered and brought out into the world. hopefully 2013 will be even better! these are just a few* things i really like and hope have the spotlight shone on them. not holding them upto commercial success, just wishing them all the best for the forthcoming year. UK CENTRIC. *nb, some of these are totally biased picks but who cares?!
13 for ‘13.
Brightonian singer Elli has been getting me excited for a little while. she has one seriously sultry voice and a badass vibe.
‘Ghosts’ lit up my world when i first heard it this year. an incredible vocal and songwriting talent, Laura’s debut album is forthcoming on Polydor.
there is just something about this girl. her Zinc collab still has me bouncing off the walls, and i’m really looking forward to hearing much more music soon.
20 year old Ben has been holed up writing for the past year, creating some of the most touching and powerful electronic soul i’ve heard in a long time.
his track ‘London’ blew up on the blogs a little earlier this year and since then i have been keeping my eyes firmly on Ofei. a very very exciting artist who somehow conjures up these magical tracks completely by himself. writer, vocalist, multi instrumentalist, producer. amazing.
‘You’re The One’ caught my ear so hard. it gets said a lot but this young producer really is doing special things. i’m a big fan, make sure you check him out if you’re into all things house/garage/massive music.
MUSIC SOON. all i’m gonna say is that i’m stupid excited about this very very talented kid.
probably has one of the best voices i have ever heard in my life. this 17 year old will blow your socks off. hopefully there will be more music once school has finished in the summer!
a very talented duo that have been stealthily tearing clubs up and down for a short while. there is a real midas touch about these two, and ‘In Need’ only solidifies that.
probably one of the most interesting female artists to come out of the UK in the last forever. brooding electronic music that sounds like nothing else. more please!
lost a marble or two when i heard their ‘Forever For Now’ EP earlier this year, might actually be one of my fave releases of 2012. very much looking forward to delving deeper into the world of Shelter Point.
featured vocalist for Disclosure, Sinead has been bubbling under for quite some time. with a seriously serious set of pipes on her, i’m betting it’s almost her time to step into the foreground and blow everyone away. also, i definitely fancy her a bit.
having given us gems like ‘The Giver’, ‘No Money Blues’ and ‘Need U (100%) in the latter half of 2012, lord knows what the Duke can deliver next year but i am definitely very excited. WOI.
